From ambition to implementation.
We bring together financial and impact diligence to help investors navigate a fragmented and nascent market.
Our business model means our recommendations are determined by your objectives alone. We have no in-house funds and no buy-list.
More than 25 years working with institutional investors across pension funds, insurers, foundations and family offices, and conducting manager research.
Structured, data-led visibility into the global investible universe, mapping opportunities systematically across themes and asset classes, rather than relying on inbound flow or one-off market scans.
Every engagement is built around your sustainability and impact objectives, not a template. With no in-house products to protect, our advice is determined solely by what is right for you.
Deep financial and ESG/impact assessments by seasoned research professionals, integrating both dimensions from the outset, because a strategy that delivers on one but fails the other does not meet the bar.
We cut through labels with methodologies tailored to each asset class that apply consistent financial and impact criteria from screening through to monitoring.
Continuous innovation through global investor collaboration across 47 countries, sharing insights on what peer institutions are actually doing, not just what they say, to inform every engagement.
An extension of your team. Not a replacement for it.
We handle the breadth of manager research and diligence, and bring the structure and peer perspective that help your team make decisions it can stand behind.
The good thing about bfinance is that they do not have a preference. They will find the best manager for you. It is an unbiased recommendation.
Charity, North America
Build a comprehensive and transparent view of the opportunity set across managers, themes and asset classes, enabling more informed sourcing decisions and reducing reliance on inbound opportunities and ad hoc ideas.
Apply a structured and standardized analysis and framework across managers and asset classes.
By handling the breadth of manager research and due diligence, we free up your team to concentrate where it matters most for you.
Where managers are closely matched or a technical question is genuinely borderline, we bring structured analysis and peer-informed perspective so your team reaches a better-considered decision and can defend it.
A rigorous process, tailored at every stage.
Most investors focus heavily on due diligence and structuring, yet the biggest determinant of outcomes is which opportunities are considered in the first place. You cannot diligence your way out of a weak sourcing funnel. Our five-stage process starts upstream, with systematic universe mapping across impact themes, sectors, geographies, and asset classes, so that by the time a manager reaches your committee, the field has been rigorously shaped, not assembled from inbound relationships and anecdote.
Beliefs questionnaire, stakeholder consensus, impact thesis definition.
Systematic sourcing across sustainable themes, asset classes, geographies and structures, drawing on 4,500+ manager relationships.
Mandate design, portfolio construction, investment sizing, and definition of measurable success metrics.
Fully customized search combining financial and ESG/impact analysis, with transparent benchmarking and structured comparisons. Average duration: 9 to 12 weeks.
Ongoing sustainability and impact monitoring and manager reassessment.
How are sustainability risks and impact identified and integrated at deal level from the outset?
Are risks and positive impact actively managed and monitored throughout the holding period?
Is impact preserved, evidenced, and reported at realization?
We assess how impact is generated and managed at every stage of the holding period, not how it is described.
We assess how impact is generated and managed, not how it is described.
To execute impact-related searches, we combine bfinance's longstanding ESG due diligence framework with a proprietary impact investing methodology embedded throughout our manager research and selection process.
The objective is not to categorize funds based on labels, but to assess whether a manager can credibly and consistently deliver intentional, measurable impact alongside competitive financial returns.
Beyond labels
We go materially beyond headline claims, SFDR classifications or marketing narratives. Through our work, we regularly observe that strategies vary widely in the clarity of their impact objectives, the robustness of their measurement frameworks, and the degree to which impact considerations genuinely influence investment decision-making.
Our assessments are conducted comparatively and at scale, informed by ongoing exposure to the live market, allowing us to benchmark managers against realistic peer groups and distinguish genuinely differentiated strategies from those that are impact-themed in name only.
Four pillars of assessment
Organization-level commitment to sustainability and impact: governance, culture, incentives, resource, expertise and track record.
The sustainable and impact aspirations of the strategy: target themes and the underlying theory of change.
Impact strategy and processes pre- and post-investment, considerations of double materiality, and use of industry frameworks, tools and resources.
The rigor and transparency of reporting, and accountability mechanisms.
Capital deployed with confidence, financially rigorous and with purpose.
bfinance supported us with our first private equity impact-focused allocation. They provided expertise and guidance throughout the process. We wanted to have a real and measurable impact across a range of SDGs, rather than just an 'impact allocation'; bfinance's framework and thorough due diligence (on both financial and impact dimensions) helped us to deliver on this.
Canadian Endowment
Impact does not live in one asset class. Neither does our experience.
Impact opportunities are dispersed across asset classes, themes, and geographies, and no single generic screen can do justice to all of them. bfinance has built analytical frameworks specific to each asset class, grounded in direct mandate experience, so that our universe mapping reflects how each market actually works rather than how it is labeled.
