David Vafai, MBA, CFA, CAIA – Chief Executive Officer
David Vafai is founder, Chairman and CEO of bfinance International Limited. David is responsible for the growth and development of the company and its businesses. Prior to founding bfinance in 1999, David worked at Mercer in Toronto, Goldman Sachs International in London and Bertelsmann in Paris. David holds an HBSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Western Ontario, an MBA from INSEAD, and is a CFA and CAIA Charterholder.
Mark Brownlie, FCCA – Chief Financial Officer
Mark Brownlie is CFO of bfinance. Mark is responsible for finance and internal controls within the bfinance group companies. He has extensive experience across a variety of sectors including financial services, telecoms, manufacturing, online media advertising and software development. Mark joined bfinance in 2016 from The Foundry, a software business with a global footprint, where he was also CFO. Prior to this, Mark was Group Head of Business Support and Internal Control at Lost boys International. Mark holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting from Glasgow Caledonian University and is an ACCA qualified accountant.
Pal Sarai – Managing Director, Head of Client Consulting EMEA, Australia & Asia.
Pal is Head of Client Consulting for EMEA, Australia & Asia at bfinance. Pal has over 20 years of experience in asset management and capital markets. He joined bfinance in 2011. Prior to this, Pal was a director of institutional products in the UK and Switzerland for Nordea Investment Management, having joined Nordea in 2008. He previously worked in senior roles in investment banks, hedge funds and financial services companies. Pal holds a masters degree in finance from Imperial College in London and is a CAIA Charterholder.
Peter Hobbs – Managing Director, Private Markets
Peter Hobbs is Managing Director of Private Markets based in bfinance’s London office. Peter covers the Real Estate, Infrastructure, Private Equity and Private Debt Markets. The bfinance Private Markets team provides a series of services including portfolio strategy and design, portfolio risk reviews and solutions, investment manager search and selection and due diligence. Peter has over 25 years of both principal investing and research experience. He joined bfinance from MSCI where he was Managing Director for Real Estate Research and Key Global Accounts, responsible for benchmarking and portfolio analysis, risk services and method development. Prior to this, Peter held various senior global research and business development roles with IPD, RREEF – the alternatives asset management division of Deutsche Bank, and Property & Portfolio Research. In 2015 he was shortlisted for Outstanding Industry Contribution at the IPE Real Estate Global Awards 2015. Peter has a PhD and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MIRCS).
Mathias Neidert, CFA – Managing Director, Head of Public Markets Investment Advisory
Mathias joined bfinance as a Senior Associate in March 2008 focusing on manager research and selection in the fixed income space. He was named Head of Public Markets in 2014, managing a team of asset class specialists in charge of investment advisory within listed equity and fixed income asset classes. Before joining bfinance, he worked for RBC Dexia in Luxembourg, most recently as Product Manager for Investment Analytics services. Mathias started his career in the investment fund industry in 2003. Mathias is a CFA Charterholder and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Gallen (Lic. Oec. HSG) in Switzerland.
Dr Toby Goodworth – Managing Director, Head of Risk & Diversifying Strategies
Toby Goodworth is Head of Risk & Diversifying Strategies at bfinance, having managed risk in hedge fund portfolios since 2003. Previously Toby was Head of Risk Management at Key Asset Management, one of Europe's oldest fund of hedge funds, where he designed and ran the firm's bespoke risk models. Prior to that he was a risk analyst focusing on quantitative global equity strategies. Toby holds a Ph.D in Physics from University College London and a First Class honours degree in Physics, also from UCL.
Benjamin Legrand – Senior Director, Head of Information Systems
Benjamin joined bfinance in 2005 and, as Director, Head of Information Systems, is in charge of bfinance’s IS infrastructure and development initiatives. Prior to joining bfinance, Benjamin spent 8 years as a consultant in Information Systems at PwC and at an IT service company he co-founded. As a consultant, Benjamin was involved in large IT projects for BNP Paribas, Société Générale and Archon Group (subsidiary of Goldman Sachs). He holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering from a french Grande Ecole.
